What we verify before a stone reaches this site

Every gem in Gem Vault is sourced from Sri Lanka's finest producing regions and graded by an independent laboratory before it is ever listed. No exceptions. No in-house reports. No ambiguity.

How we get our gems

Two paths to the vault — both begin in Sri Lanka

Whether the stone comes from our own mining licence or from a trusted parcel dealer, it goes through the same preparation — hand-selected, in-house cut, and independently graded before it ever appears on the site.

Gem mine in Sri Lanka — our licenced pit
Path A

Directly from the earth

Our own mines

We operate mining licences in Sri Lanka's gem-bearing regions. Every stone extracted here carries a fully traceable chain of custody from the pit to the polish wheel — owned and controlled at every stage.

Path B

Decades-deep market relationships

Trusted traders

Where we don't mine directly, we purchase rough gem-stone parcels from dealers who have traded in Sri Lanka's established gem markets — Nivitigala, Rathnapura, Beruwala and others — for decades. We attend the markets ourselves and choose every parcel by hand.

Then, regardless of source

01

We select the rough stone

Our buyers hand-pick every rough stone under loupe — evaluating crystal clarity, colour saturation and freedom from problematic inclusions before anything else happens.

02

Our cutter cuts and polishes

An in-house master cutter works each stone to maximise light return and minimise waste. No outsourced cutting, no batch processing — each gem is shaped individually.

Certification standards

Four commitments that apply to every natural stone without exception

01

Independent grading, without exception

No stone is listed before it is graded by NGJA. We do not grade in-house, and we do not list a stone against a report issued to a different stone. The report number on the page is the report number in the parcel.

02

Treatment is stated, not implied

Heat, oil, fracture filling and diffusion each change value materially. Where a laboratory records a treatment, we print it on the card, the detail page and the invoice. 'Unheated' appears only where the report says so.

03

Origin where it can be evidenced

Country of origin is a laboratory opinion based on inclusion and trace-element analysis. We state the country the report names. Where origin is inconclusive, we say so rather than inferring it from the colour.

04

100% natural — no lab-grown, ever

Every stone in our inventory formed naturally within the earth over millions of years. We do not carry synthetic or laboratory-grown material. What you see is what nature made.
